Overview

The Life Skills Assignment is an independent, choice-based project that allows students to “create their own grade” by completing practical, real-world tasks. The assignment emphasizes responsibility, independence, cultural literacy, and essential life competencies while giving students autonomy and motivation.

This project works well as:

• A long-term independent project
• A flexible enrichment assignment
• A substitute teacher lesson
• A life skills or advisory unit
• A senior project or middle school assignment

Students must complete mandatory tasks and then choose additional activities to reach a total of 100 points.

Recommended Grade Levels

Upper Middle School (Grades 7–8)

1. Copy and distribute the Life Skills Assignment packet.
