This forest PhenomBL resource includes an overview of the Phenomenon-Based Learning framework, an outline of the unit and planning tools, and graphic organizers to help your students synthesize their learning. 

How subjects can be integrated in this unit:

Work on reading skills while exploring informational texts about types of forests, plants and animals found in different forests, and even forests in literature

Work on writing skills while writing narratives set in forests, informational texts about forests, or reporting on research findings. 

Work on math skills while calculating the area of forests, sorting items found in forests, or mapping the changes in forests over time.

Work on science/STEAM skills while exploring different types of animals and plants found in different forests, ecosystems and food webs within the forest, effects of wildfires or extreme weather on forests, or the different types and locations of forests around the world 

Work on social studies skills while exploring jobs related to the forest industry, how humans use the forest and how they adapt to the conditions, human effects on the forest and its wildlife, and more. 

**Informational texts are not included in this unit. What is included are the planning guides and resources to use texts on your students’ levels. PhenomBL is student-centered so texts will should be based on the needs of individual classes and students.
