Item description
This PhET simulation lab on force and motion is a great way to introduce students to the concept of force, mass, and acceleration. By the end of this activity students should be able to observe the relationship between force, mass, speed, friction, and acceleration and answer conceptual concepts. This lab consists of 9 pages, 4 parts, with a total of 28 questions.
The lab is laid out as the following:
Part 1: Net Force- questions 1-5
Part 2: Motion- question 6-10
Part 3: Friction- questions 11-18
Part 4: Acceleration- questions 19-28

I highly recommend doing the simulation yourself at least once before assigning this to your students in order to familiarize yourself with it. I would recommend assigning the students to work in pairs so that they have someone to think aloud with. This will also allow you to circulate the room, observe your students, and clarify any misconceptions that you witness.
This was a great activity to do with my own students as it gave them a foundational experience to go back to when I formally taught them about force and motion. My students were able to get key concepts down faster as a result of this activity. I hope that you find this activity to be effective with your own classroom as well.
Happy Teaching!
