Second grade guided reading pintables for information, narrative and persuasive texts. Build fluency and accuracy! Clear and easy to read font. Print and pop into literacy tubs for reading, into homework folders or display digitally on a whiteboard, computer or iPad.

Cards are clear to read, nicely sized font (two cards to an A4 page, 30 cards in total), and all clipart is in black and white for cost effective printing. I often print and have students do reading-with-a-pencil in our guided reading groups by having them circle key words or nouns/adjectives/verbs and underline where they can find the answer to oral questions to have them learn to re-read and scan the text for meaning. They also write their own retell in their books afterwards, but the options are endless!

They are really easy to follow and children are engaged when learning interesting facts when reading the information texts (for example, did you know a starfish eats by throwing its stomach up through its mouth to eat, then swallowing it again?! Or that polar bears fur is actually transparent and their skin underneath is black – but they reflect the light of the snow and ice around them which is why they look white to humans?!). Having a variety of reading genres is important, and you can either use the genres that match what you are currently teaching or pick different genres for different skills.

This is a really easy and quick activity to have ready to go for your guided reading groups, and with thirty cards is great value – every piece of text is original and written by myself, proof-read and tested by other at least three other teachers before being tweaked and ready for uploading. I am sure your learners will love them as much as ours have!
